Jaya Rice

Jaya rice is one of the popularly used varieties in Kerala. Largely cultivated in Karnataka, Andhra & Kerala. It's unique flavour, colour, size and crispness makes it an ideal companion for all traditional Kerala dishes. Jaya is the first developed variety after initiation of the All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Programme (AICRIP). It is a cross variety which is evolved from an indica x Taichung (Native) and the tall local photosensitive variety T-141 of Orissa. Jaya has the ability to maintain a high level of productivity under reasonable fluctuations of spacing. It is also less sensitive to season so that it can be grown all the year round. Jaya is the only variety tested on all India basis in the coordinated programme which consistently out yielded IR-8. Jaya matures in 130 to 135 days and the grain is medium long.
