Sona Masoori is a medium-grain and a hybrid combination of two types of rice species- Sona and Masoori. Individually, both these species are well known for their distinctive qualities of aroma, nutrients, and softnes. Sona masuri is also known as samba masuri, BPT 5204, HMT, Jeeraka Sala and Swarna Masoori grown largely in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. In Telugu, Sona Masuri rice is called Bangaru Theegalu (meaning Golden Ivy). It is light weight and aromatic. Sona Masoori is commonly known as Puzhungal Arisi (Par-Boiled Rice, Half Boiled Rice) in Tamil or simply White Rice. Since this rice variety is partially boiled in the husk is cooked faster compared to Boiled Rice.
